During air transport due to change of atmospheric pressure, temperature and vibration some items can behave unpredictably and dangerously, which can lead to leakage, fire, generation of toxic vapour, explosion etc.
These can be common items
- household goods such as oven and drain cleaners, bleach, glues, aerosols, oils, paint, pesticides may contain items meeting criteria of dangerous goods including flammable liquids, oxidizes, organic peroxides, toxic and corrosive substances etc.
- battery –powered devices may contain wet or lithium batteries
- camping equipment may contain flammable gases (butane, propane), flammable liquids (gasoline) and flammable solids (matches) etc.
- diving equipment may contain cylinders of compressed gas, high intensity diving lamps which can generate extremely high heat when operated in air
- expeditionary equipment may contain explosives (flares), flammable liquids (gasoline), flammable gas (propane) etc.
- film crew or media equipment may contain explosive – pyrotechnic devices, wet batteries, lithium batteries, fuel, heat production items etc.
- frozen fruit, vegetables may be packed in Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice)
- hot air balloon may contain cylinders with flammable gas, fire extinguishers, batteries, engines internal combustion etc.
- instruments may conceal barometers, thermometers, manometers etc. containing mercury (corrosive and toxic)
- repair kits may contain organic peroxides and flammable adhesives, solvent based paints, resins etc.
- sporting equipment may contain cylinders of compressed or liquefied gas, lithium batteries, propane torches, flammable aerosols etc.
- swimming pool chemicals may contain oxidizing or corrosive substances
- toolboxes may contain explosives, compressed gas or aerosols, flammable gases, paints, corrosive liquids, lithium batteries etc.
- vaccines may be packed in Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice)
